You want to buy a greenhouse. Which one to choose?

Which greenhouse is better?

Here are some tips.

The greenhouse allows you to get vegetables very early and very late, when on the ground - due to the cold - this is impossible.

Heat-loving plants can also be grown in greenhouses.

You can buy a greenhouse (ready-made or custom-made) on our website or build it yourself.

How to choose and buy a greenhouse?

1. Materials

Greenhouses can have a frame made of wood (they need to be serviced from time to time, for example, stained, oiled or painted) or metal (mainly aluminum or galvanized profile - this is the best inexpensive option. Such materials do not rust).

Despite the name "greenhouse", modern greenhouses are filled with either glass or polycarbonate which is more practical.

Regular window glass - if broken (hail, falling branches, etc.) shatters into sharp pieces. You can choose laminated glass instead for greater safety, but it is more expensive. Replacing the glass is also more difficult - you have to call a glazier.

Polycarbonate is a type of plastic. Transparent polycarbonate is suitable for greenhouses, as it lets in the most light – it happens monolithic (more expensive) and cellular (cheaper); there are different thicknesses to choose from. When buying a greenhouse in our store, you can choose the thickness of the polycarbonate.

Polycarbonate, like glass, can also break. Its pieces, however, do not cause damage, they are easier to pick up from the ground and can be recycled. Polycarbonate can be replaced independently (it is easy to cut with a regular saw).

2. Thermal insulation

Summer cottages and hobby greenhouses can be heated or unheated. Having better thermal insulation, they cool down more slowly in winter and heat up in summer. In practice, it is difficult to check what kind of thermal insulation a greenhouse has. It is assumed that the most advantageous in this regard are

3. Straight and rounded edges

Rounded (curved) surfaces of glass and polycarbonate look picturesque. However, their replacement in case of breakage is more expensive. Simple panels are cheaper.

4. Height of the greenhouse

Some manufacturers believe that the greenhouse should not be higher than 200 at its highest point. However, if tall people will be using it, it will be more convenient to have a higher greenhouse. Thanks to this, you will avoid constantly bending over, which is very tiring and discourages working in the greenhouse. It is easier to work in a high greenhouse. With us you can buy a greenhouse with increased height.

5. Door height

Ready-made greenhouses have doors of different heights. If it is, for example, 160 cm, it will be difficult for a person with a height of 180 cm to use them. Therefore, it is always worth checking the height of the greenhouse door. And adjust it to your height.

6. Door width

Greenhouses also differ in the width of the doorway. Some ready-made models have entrances only about 60 cm wide. It will be difficult for a full person to get through such a narrow door. You won’t be able to carry a wheelbarrow either. The problem may be in getting a large plant, a bag of soil, etc. inside. Therefore, in order to buy a greenhouse and have no problems choosing the optimal door width.

7. Low threshold

This makes it easier to move around without tripping and to enter with a wheelbarrow. The low threshold also makes it easier for older people to use the greenhouses, for example.

8. Locking door

It will be useful both in a summer cottage and in a garden plot. Sometimes a greenhouse needs to be closed, for example, from children. As a rule, greenhouses do not have locks with a key, but there are handles for hanging a padlock.

9. Window for ventilation

There should be at least one, and preferably 2-3. Opening the door itself to ventilate the greenhouse is not enough, for example, in hot weather. It is worth checking the height of the ventilation windows in the greenhouse. Short people may have problems opening them if they are at a height of, for example, 200-250 cm. In custom greenhouses, you can order windows that open automatically (using sensors) or using a smartphone. However, this is an additional expense.

10. Resistance to wind and snow

Ready-made greenhouses have different resistance to atmospheric phenomena. In the average garden, greenhouses that can withstand winds of up to 75 km per hour and snow weight of up to 75 kg per square meter are enough. If the greenhouse is to be located in the mountains or in the wilderness, it is worth investing in a model with greater resistance. Contact us, we will help you choose a greenhouse that is not afraid of either wind or snow.

11. Gutters

Not all greenhouses have them. Gutters do more than just drain away rain or snow. They can also have rainwater collection solutions.

12. Foundation

It is better to avoid a brick foundation. Greenhouses fixed on anchors or installed on steel bases are more convenient. They are easier, for example, to move to another place.
