A round garden bed is a separate flower bed or mini-garden that is placed on a lawn, terrace, or area next to a greenhouse. Three sizes are available: 100 cm in diameter with a 30 cm-high rim, and 120 cm and 150 cm in diameter with a 45 cm-high rim. Planting area: from 0.8 m² for the smallest to 1.8 m² for the largest.

The high sides serve two purposes. First, there’s no need to dig the garden bed: it can be placed on any surface—even compacted soil or gravel—and filled with soil from above. Second, it’s easier to tend to than a regular garden bed: at a height of 45 cm, you don’t have to bend over much, and older adults and children can tend to the plants while sitting on a stool.

What to plant in it

A round shape is best suited for crops that can be accessed from all sides: strawberries, herbs, lettuce, flowers, and low-growing vegetables—such as peppers and compact tomatoes. For cucumbers and tall tomato plants that need to be staked, it’s best to choose a greenhouse garden bed set.

What is it made of?

The sides are made of galvanized steel. Zinc doesn’t rust and doesn’t leach anything into the soil, so the garden bed looks the same in its first season as it does in its fifth, and the soil inside it is safe to use for growing food. There is no bottom, so excess water drains into the ground.
